About me

I completed my first mosaic in 2012, when I couldn’t find a suitable fountain for my garden. A few years and smaller mosaics later, I seriously started to train myself through online and face-to-face courses in 2020. I have worked as a professional mosaicist since April 2023.

I love that a mosaic never lets itself be tamed entirely. It is crafted and viewed with a continuous shift of perspective. The work begins with a conversation with each individual element placed , while the composition shifts and changes until enough is finally laid for our eyes and brains to recognize the overall pattern. From one moment to the next, the final image appears and demands attention over the details. If we choose to, we can still focus and lose ourselves in the detail. Both dimensions remain to be explored, and neither is fully expected in the observation of the other.

Mosaics are playful and full of life as ancient stone takes form in the interplay of thousands of tiny tesserae. They become almost ephemeral, as a change in light or mood can present the piece very differently and call attention to different aspects.

Working on my own designs or bringing those of my clients to life is equally rewarding. The process of finding out what someone is looking for from their new creation is a journey of discovery for client and crafter alike. It will influence the theme, the style, the technique, and the material.

The process of setting thousands of tesserae by hand is naturally slow. It thus becomes a journey of discovery for maker and owner alike. They get to witness and experience the shaping and transformation of the piece into its final form and thus share the creative process.
